Position Overview

The Recreation Manager – Captiva Landing is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and daily operations of Captiva Landing, South Seas’ flagship waterpark and recreation destination. This role oversees all recreation experiences within Captiva Landing, including the waterpark, lazy river, pools, children’s water play areas, arcade, kids programming (Camptiva), and special events, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, safety, and operational excellence.

Captiva Landing also includes Flippers, a walk-up restaurant located within the recreation area. The Recreation Manager partners closely with Food & Beverage leadership to ensure a seamless, well-coordinated guest experience across recreation, pool, and dining spaces, while maintaining clear departmental ownership.

This position provides direct leadership to Recreation Supervisors and recreation teams, serves as a visible leader within the operation, and collaborates cross-functionally to support the success, safety, and growth of Captiva Landing as a premier South Seas amenity.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide overall leadership, direction, and accountability for Captiva Landing recreation operations.
  • Directly manage and develop Recreation Supervisors, ensuring consistent execution of programming, service standards, and safety protocols.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management for recreation and activities staff.
  • Establish clear expectations, goals, and accountability for supervisors and team members.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and guest-focused culture that emphasizes teamwork, service excellence, and operational discipline.
  • Support succession planning and staff development to promote internal growth and retention.

Recreation Programming & Guest Experience

  • Under the direction of the Director of Recreation, own the design, planning, and execution of all recreation programming at Captiva Landing, including:
    • Kids programming and Camptiva
    • Pool and waterpark activities
    • Lazy river and slide programming
    • Arcade operations and guest engagement
    • Special events, holiday activations, and themed experiences
  • Ensure programming is engaging, age-appropriate, safe, and aligned with South Seas’ brand and guest expectations.
  • Analyze participation trends and guest feedback to continuously refine offerings and improve the guest experience.
  • Serve as a visible, guest-facing leader, addressing escalated concerns and ensuring high levels of guest satisfaction.

Waterpark, Pool & Facility Operations

  • Oversee daily operations of Captiva Landing’s waterpark, pools, lazy river, kids water play areas, slides, and arcade.
  • Ensure all areas meet resort standards for safety, cleanliness, readiness, and presentation.
  • Conduct regular operational walk-throughs and inspections to identify and address operational needs.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Security, and Housekeeping to address maintenance, safety, and cleanliness issues promptly.

Cross-Functional Operations & Guest Experience Integration

  • Partner closely with Food & Beverage leadership to coordinate operations impacting the Flippers walk-up restaurant within Captiva Landing.
  • Support seamless guest flow, safety, cleanliness, and service standards across shared recreation and dining spaces.
  • Collaborate on peak-period planning, special events, and activations that involve both recreation programming and Flippers.
  • Ensure consistent guest communication and experience across recreation and dining touchpoints.
  • Escalate and assist with resolving guest concerns related to shared spaces in coordination with appropriate department leaders.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all recreation staff are properly trained and certified in required safety standards, including CPR and First Aid.
  • Oversee compliance with water safety, child safety, emergency procedures, and risk management protocols.
  • Review incident reports, ensure proper documentation, and lead follow-up actions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, local regulations, and industry best practices.

Budgeting, Inventory & Administrative Oversight

  • Manage departmental budgets related to recreation operations, including labor, supplies, and programming expenses.
  • Oversee inventory management for recreation equipment, activity supplies, and arcade operations.
  • Review staffing models and schedules to align with business volume, seasonality, and special events.
  • Prepare operational reports related to participation, staffing, incidents, and performance trends.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Engineering, Security, Food & Beverage, Guest Services, and Marketing to ensure cohesive resort operations.
  • Support large-scale resort events, peak seasons, and new initiatives within Captiva Landing.
  • Actively contribute ideas to enhance Captiva Landing as a signature destination experience at South Seas.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Prior experience in recreation management and resort operations, or hospitality leadership required.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a high-volume, guest-facing environment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of waterpark, pool, and child safety operations preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple operational areas simultaneously.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexible schedule required, including weekends, holidays, and peak seasons.
